Fuction
 The simple past tense describes complete actions that started and ended in the past.

Form
Affirmative Sentences

Subject  +  Verb (Regular or Irregular)  +  Complement.

E.g. She saw a ghost.

Negative Sentences

  + didn't + Verb (base form) + Complement.

E.g. He didn’t drink water, he drank coffee.

Questions
Yes/No Quetions

Did  +  + Verb (BF) + Complement

E.g. Did you understand?
Yes, I did. / No, I didn't.
Wh Questions
 
WH +  did  +        + Verb (BF) + C ?
E.g. When did you study?
I studied on Saturday.
